Numerical Analysis with MATLAB Online
What is Numerical Analysis
I love, love, love Numerical Analysis! I took two semesters of this course when I was in grad school and they were the most useful classes I took. Not only do you learn awesome math techniques, but you also get to really strengthen your coding skills.
Numerical Analysis (aka Numerical Methods) is used to find math solutions that are too complicated or too numerous to get by hand. From personal experience, I can tell you that these methods are used extensively in industry. They’re powerful methods that are easy to code up and provide for good solutions in a minimal amount of time.
Numerical Analysis Online Course
This Numerical Analysis course is the one I teach on campus. It covers all the main topics found in a general Numerical Analysis course. Since coding is required, I use MATLAB for the course.
You do need to have a basic knowledge of topics in MATLAB like logicals, matrices, looping, and functions.
The course contains short, on demand videos that cover the theory.
Examples follow where we’ll then apply the theory and walk through problems by hand as well as in MATLAB.
Since this course is designed for engineering majors, we’ll apply the techniques to engineering problems so you can see why it’s useful.
Topics
Here’s what you’ll learn:
- Root finding: Bisection, Newton’s, secant methods
- Solving systems of equations: Gaussian elimination and Gauss Jordan techniques
- Curve fitting: Least squares regression, polynomial regression, Lagrange interpolating polynomials, cubic splines & more
- Numerical Differentiation: Finite difference & Lagrange polynomial techniques
- Numerical Integration: Rectangle, midpoint, trapezoidal and Simpson’s methods
- Ordinary differential equations: Euler’s, modified Euler’s, and 2nd, 3rd, & 4th order Runge Kutta techniques
What Comes with the Class
- 13.5+ hours of on-demand lecture videos
- 32 fully-worked examples – includes both handwritten and MATLAB problems
- Downloadable outline of notes with all example problem statements
- 50 downloadable MATLAB scripts needed to run all the examples
- Certificate of Completion once you finish the course
- Email access to the instructor in case you get stuck on a topic
- 30 day money back guarantee so there’s no risk to try it out
