The most popular college engineering societies can vary depending on the university and the specific engineering discipline, but some of the most widely recognized and respected organizations include:
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
As mentioned earlier, ASME is one of the largest and oldest mechanical engineering societies in the world and has a presence on many college campuses. It provides the opportunity to participate in competitions, conferences and provides learning resources.
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization for electrical and electronics engineering and has a significant presence in many universities.
Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE International)
SAE International is a professional organization for engineers in the automotive and aerospace industries. It has a strong presence in many universities with mechanical or aerospace engineering programs.
National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)
