Organization Tools You Need to Get Organzied
Does your desk look like someone dumped a pile of papers and pens on it? If so, you need to get organized! Organization is one of the keys to doing well in Engineering. With countless assignments, projects and exams you have to keep it all straight. It’s easy to lose track if everything is scattered between backpacks, books, binders and desks.
The trick is to keep all the materials for each class together, in one easy to use place. For each class, you want the syllabus, assignments, course notes, graded homework and projects all kept in a central location. This makes it easy to find your things when you need them.
An added benefit comes at the end of the semester. If everything is kept together, it’s easy to create a course binder for your personal engineering library. Students like to throw old course stuff out but you should ALWAYS keep it!! These references will be really useful later in courses like senior design or when you enter industry.
It’s also a good idea to keep all the administrative paperwork together too… things like degree plans, advising records, etc. You just never know when you’ll need this stuff!
There are a few tools that will make your life easier and more organized. Let’s check them out…
Hanging folders & door organizers
These are super useful! You will have a central spot for your loads of papers for each class. They’re easy to use, don’t take up much room and they won’t break the bank! Fill them up over the semester and then, once classes end, empty them out and create course binders.
Jewel tone hanging wall folders
Get them here.
Hanging File Folders
This option gives you even more storage which is great if you have courses with lecture, lab and recitation sections. Check them out here.
Fabric Door Organizer
This is a good option if you already have folders but need somewhere to keep them. Plus, this one is a little more decorative! See it here.
Lamps with Chargers & Organizers
You need a good light so you can see what you’re doing. These options offer great light but also give storage options and more!
Lamp with Outlet Plug
This one gives you a place for pens, lets you move the light in all different directions and is powered by a USB making it portable. Perfect for a dorm room desk! Read more about it here.
Pivoting Bankers Lamp with Charging Port
This one charges, has several brightness settings and swivels around so you get the lighting you need. Check it out here.
Desk Organizers
These are extra handy for assignments that are in progress. Work for a little while and then put your papers aside in the tray. When you’re ready to get back to work the papers are ready and waiting.
Vertical Organizer
I like this set because of the extra storage space at the bottom. The silver color is awesome too! See it here.

Pencil Bags
Engineering students have pencils and pens everywhere! They get lost, broken and in the way if they don’t have a place to go. The bags give you the option to pack them up and take them to class. This is especially important on exam day when you need to bring more than one pencil.
Large Pencil Bags
This awesome bag has room for all your pens and pencils plus some! Check it out here.
Another great option is right here. This bag provides lots of space for pens, pencils, highlighters, sticky tabs and more. Comes in several great color choices too!
Smaller Pencil Bag
This one is smaller than the first but equally as useful. Made with sturdy fabric and a zipper to keep your pencils in place! See other colors here.
Get Organized!
If you’re struggling this semester, try getting organized. It might be just what you need!
