The Best Pens for Taking Great Notes
We’ve already covered how important it is to rewrite your notes. Since you’re going to do this task anyways you might as well make it fun, right? What makes note taking more fun than awesome, brightly colored pens and markers? Nothing that I can think of!
When doing my lectures I always write everything out on engineering paper and project it on the screen using a document camera. I always use bright colors to make the notes really pop during class. I write fast and I write a lot so I burn through pens and markers like you wouldn’t believe.
These pens and markers are the best I have found so far! If you’re looking to make an organized, colorful set of notes these will do the trick!
Le Pen 0.3mm Pens
Y’all I think I have a new favorite pen! I bought these a couple weeks ago and I love them. They are my go-to pens during my lectures now. The ink flows effortlessly and they come in some great colors. Definitely check these out if you want to add to your pen collection.
Staedtler Fineliner 0.3mm Pens
I can’t say enough about these things! I got all my coworkers hooked on them. This set of amazing pens comes in an array of colors. These have a very fine, dainty tip and last a long time. Great for those of you with gorgeous print!
Pilot Juice Ballpoint Pens
Look at all these colors! They are fantastic and they go on smooth!
Zebra Mildliner
I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t love these! If you checkout the bujo journal pages these are used all the time, and for good reason. Lots of colors that are just the right shade for highlighting and writing. This is money well spent!
Stabilo Point 88 Fineliner Pens
30 Colors is what you get! Imagine what you can do with all those vivid colors! The tip is a dainty 0.4 mm to let you do detailed drawings and writings. Equations look great written with a fine tip!
iBayam Fineliner Pens
If you watch any of my engineering tutorials these are the pens you’ll see me use. I love these things! Best of all, you get 24 colors that seemingly last forever. Highly recommend these – they are a bargain at this price!
Glitter Gel Pens
How can a girl make good notes without some glitter? You can’t! The dullest of notes come alive when you use these shimmery colors. I love, love, love these!
Sarasa Fine Point
Here’s a new set of pens I’ve been trying out while creating my Mechanics of Materials lecture videos. I really like them! The colors aren’t as vibrant as some of the others so if you want slightly more muted hues these are for you. They dry quickly so they don’t smudge which is always something we look for, right?!
PaperMate Flair Felt Tip
When I have to grade exams, these are the pens I love to use. Bright colors with a 0.7mm felt tip really make for a great writing experience. These write more like markers with a tiny point. They actually make correcting exams kinda fun!
Ink Joy
I saved one of my all-time favorites for last! These are my go to pens. The ink glides on so smoothly, it’s amazing. The 14 colors are bright and vivid. Best of all the ink dries quickly so the bottom of your hand doesn’t get all colored after writing. Everyone I know who uses these loves them!
Great Notes Need Great Pens
Do yourself a favor and buy a set or two of these. You’ll love writing notes and looking back over them for months to come.
P.S. Don’t Forget About Using a Good Notebook
If you’re spending lots of time making an amazing set of notes, use a notebook that will protect your notes and last for years. The last thing engineering students should do is throw away notes at the end of the semester. The notebooks shown below will help you preserve your notes so that you can refer back to them when you need them. And believe me… you’ll probably need them!
